I am the Director of a Kids Hope USA mentoring program in Chattanooga, TN. KHUSA focuses on improving children's reading skills and their social and emotional development. Our program sends mentors to inner city children that the school considers the most "at risk", or whose parents/guardians specifically request that their child have a mentor.
The Big Life Journals (any of them!) have given our mentors a wonderful tool to guide their little mentees in understanding how even their "failures" can be part of eventual successes, how to deal with negative emotions, why they should be persistent in pursuing their goals, and so much more.
Some mentors have expressed relief that, instead of them having to figure out how to help their mentees learn these things, it's already done in such an enjoyable format for them. I made a kit that included the BLJ, colored pencils and a little pencil sharpener, a couple of stickers, and a string backpack, putting each child's name on the backpack. The mentor is in charge of keeping the backpack and contents safe. The goal is that once the child and mentor complete the journal, the child gets to keep the backpack and everything in it. It's been a HUGE motivator for the children to work with the mentors on the journal.
I highly recommend the Big Life Journals for kids!
Love!
I just bought these and HOLY COW they are amazing. I ordered them on March 24th and it's only been four days since (I got them in the mail YESTERDAY, and I live in Alaska!). They shipped super fast. I wish I could give every single child and their parent at least one of these books. I ordered two of the Daily Edition journals (one for my 7-year-old and another for my 10-year-old). And I grabbed the second edition of Big Life Journal For Kids. I am so so so glad that I bought these. They are so motivational and even my kids who don't like to write are writing in them!!
My kids like writing in their journals that I purchased from your company and has helped them become more grateful and not to give up.
