Since using these resources, I've noticed a meaningful improvement in both confidence and

emotional resilience. Tasks that once felt overwhelming now seem much more manageable. I've seen more patience, better focus, and a greater willingness to try new things without giving up.

A woman with long brown hair takes a selfie in a mirror inside a bedroom.

My autistic child went from being withdrawn and isolated to dreaming of becoming a teacher. She wants to help other children with autism come out of their shells and know that they are seen, supported, and capable. A teacher who believed in her changed her life. The Big Life Journal books and guides we used together helped reinforce those lessons, building her confidence and showing her that she, too, could make a difference in the lives of others.

How Each Big Life Journal Turns Research Into Practice

Each journal is designed for a different age, but they all follow the same practical approach: help children notice what is happening, explore a more helpful way forward, and apply what they learn in everyday life.

STEP 1

Notice

Recognize and name what is happening. Guided prompts help children identify their thoughts, feelings, strengths, challenges, habits, and goals. They may name an emotion, describe a difficult moment, recognize something they did well, or notice a thought influencing their response. This gives children and adults a clearer starting point for conversation and reflection.

STEP 2

Explore

Look at the experience from another perspective. Stories, questions, and examples help children become curious about what happened and what it might teach them. They can consider another point of view, recognize a personal strength, reframe a mistake as an opportunity to learn, and think through different ways of responding.

STEP 3

Explore

Turn reflection into a practical next step. Writing, drawing, planning, and conversation activities help children connect the idea to a real situation. They might choose a calming strategy, plan how to approach a challenge, practise more helpful self-talk, prepare for an obstacle, or identify one small action they can try next.

Big Life Journal tools have helped our family learn to talk about everything! Recently my 14-year-old son with ADHD asked what a strong, weird feeling in his belly was. I smiled realizing that he had embodied self-confidence for the first time in his life. All our micro learning throughout the years led to this powerful moment.
